JENNIFER SHAKLAN, Copywriter
The daughter of an Air Force dad, Jennifer grew up moving around the United States, but no matter where she called “home,” creative writing and art were always constants in her life. Although Jennifer thought about studying art, fashion design (she loves to sew) and business (she also loves making and selling things), she ultimately got a BA in English from Arizona State University.
After graduating, Jennifer spent several years living in New York City where she worked as a promotions copywriter/copyeditor for Vogue Magazine. Even though she loved Manhattan, Jennifer eventually moved to Los Angeles to work in television. While doing marketing and editorial copywriting for an entertainment website, Jennifer earned an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA. She then went to work on TV shows and wrote the series finale for the popular show, "Men in Trees."
A huge fan of children’s books, including “Martha Speaks,” “No, David!” and “The Night I Followed My Dog” and anything by Maira Kalman, Jennifer has recently been writing children’s manuscripts and illustrations in the hopes of being published. In her free time, Jennifer loves drawing, painting, sewing, running, playing tennis, trying to remember all the French she learned in high school, playing with dogs and, most of all, kicking back with her boyfriend and his daughter.
